SCHOLARSHIP

The Matt Blackwell Scholarship Selection Committee is comprised of volunteering individuals knowledgeable in the mission of The Matt Blackwell Foundation and the criteria and eligibility requirements of its scholarship. Foundation board members are not eligible to serve on the scholarship committee. At least one representative from each of the Lancaster County high schools serves on the committee.

 

 

The Award

 

Scholarships of $1000 are awarded for one year, but may be renewed annually for up to three additional years provided funds are available and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 is maintained. All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipient's school.

 

     

Eligibility

 

1. First time applicants must be residents of Lancaster County, South Carolina and a high school senior attending Andrew Jackson High School, Buford High School, Indian Land High School, or Lancaster High School.

 

2. Applicants must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or better.

 

3. Applicants should provide copies of applications to colleges of choice.

 

 

Criteria

 

1. Academic merit as reflected in the applicant's prior academic performance and performance accepted tests designed to measure aptitude and ability for college work.

 

2. Leadership ability as evident by involvement in school and community activities.

 

3. Preference may be given to students interested in high school athletics.

 

 

Application Procedure

 

1. To be considered for a Matt Blackwell Foundation Scholarship, applicants must submit;

    a.  A completed application form.

    b.  An official copy of your most recent high school transcript.

    c.  Three recommendation forms; two from a teacher or school official and one from an   

         employer, coach, or non-relative.

    d.  Two topical essays to be answered in the application form.

 

2. Attend a personal interview with The Matt Blackwell Foundation Scholarship Committee.

 

 

Application Deadline: The Monday prior to Thanksgiving

 

Applications are available at all Lancaster County high schools.

 

Please submit completed application to your high school guidance counselor.
