Held in June, the Captain’s Choice format provides golfers of all ages the chance to compete for team, as well as individual prizes. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams as well as winners for closest to the pin, the longest drive, and the putting contest. At the conclusion of the tournament, a dinner is served to all the participants.
The 2011 Tournament
The 10th Annual Matt Blackwell Foundation Golf Tournament was held on June 25 at the Lancaster Golf Club. The team of Jim Storey, Scott Ware, Michael Vinson, and Tim Floyd topped the 25 team Captain’s Choice field, carding a low net score of 48.2 and edging out the family team of Butch, Skip, Lane, and Braden Small. Rounding out the top three finishers was the foursome of Taylor Banks, Allen Banks, Tim Wessinger,
and Drew Bragg.
Joe McCain claimed two of the closest to the pin awards with his shots on #7 and #15. Brian Lee (#4) and Terry Clyburn (#13) were the other two closest to the pin award recipients.
The 2011 men’s longest drive winner was Michael Vinson, while Alexandria McCain took home the prize for the women’s longest drive. Roger Hayes was a double winner as he took home top honors in both the senior’s longest drive and the overall longest/most
drive contests.
The $500 putting contest winner was Daniel Mitchum.
